In the format of PDM training we can touch on more personal, or difficult issues (dependant in the group). There is the opportunity for confidential one-to-one sessions, and we act as a signpost agency. This means we can put young people in touch with specialist advisors.
PDM training can take place in the classroom or an outdoor environment. We keep up-to-date with current law and trends and have contacts with police and NHS staff. Where appropriate or useful, we bring in people with personal experience relevant to the topic.
We also liaise with school nurses who advise and provide up-to-date resources and information. Our teaching style is honest and direct, relevant to the students and thought provoking. We use the conventional teaching resources such as slides and handouts. Where it is deemed useful and appropriate we arrange for true-to-life examples of drugs and/or weapons with guest speakers and hands-on or role-playing activities.
After seeing how well the students responded to our martial arts and self-defence lessons within the PDM training sessions, we have embarked upon a project to set up our own club, Silvertree freestyle martial arts opened on the 18th June 2011 our Lessons combine self-defence, self control, dealing with everyday confrontation, and generally keeping safe. Of course there are also huge fitness benefits and the chance to vent some physical energy and aggression in a controlled environment.
The opportunity to develop the sport further and work towards a grading system is available to those that show an interest. As part of thePDM training modules we can deliver one off sessions at school/clubs etc.
